The Shorter
Discourse on the Simile
of the Elephant's
Footprint - Cūḷahatthipadopama
Sutta
The Buddha uses the
simile of the elephant’s
footprint to show how
one must not come to a
conclusion too hastily
about the certainty of
whether one is fully
enlightened. This
applies to whether the
Dharma is well
proclaimed by the Buddha
and whether the Sangha
is practicing the good
way.
