Hello, about the directional radiance of metta, I wonder if a good practice would be for one to start Jhana 1 with the standard phrases, then progress Jhana 2 to 4 by switching to an All-direction radiance of Metta and then, from the 5th Jhana on (formless), do the directional radiance practice to feel the sense of infinity space? Perhaps return to an all-direction practice once again at the deep end.

From my lovely call with David Johnson yesterday, I learned that irradiating simply means feeling the Metta, not pushing it outwards. Same as your body heat, it just comes out of you naturally. Thanks to this simple insight, I was able to let go of trying and funny enough I now feel like I am, during the meditation, the flame of a candle, radiating heat in the shape of love and kindness.
