Sutta Study

Join the TWIM Practice Circle
A weekly TWIM group for reading suttas, sitting in meditation, and sharing insights together.
First 12-Week Cycle Begins: Tuesday, January 6, 2026
In January, we’ll start a 12-week exploration of the Khandha-Samyutta — the collection of suttas on the five aggregates: form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. These are core teachings in the Buddha’s path to awakening.
You’re welcome to join any time — come for one session or all twelve.
What to Expect Each Week
The TWIM Practice Circle is a space for shared discovery, using the approach of Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM). Each week follows a simple rhythm:
1. Read — We start by reading a short sutta together. No need to analyze or jump into discussion — we just let the words settle.
2. Sit — Then we sit in TWIM-style meditation for about 30 minutes, letting the sutta deepen through direct experience.
3. Share — After the sit, we open space for quiet reflection. You’re welcome to share what stood out, how the sutta connected with your meditation, or anything that felt meaningful. Listening quietly is also welcome — there’s no pressure to speak.
This isn’t a Dhamma talk or a formal teaching. It’s just a chance to read the suttas together, sit quietly, and see what comes up. Sometimes insights come, sometimes not — and that’s totally fine. It’s really about showing up and practicing together.
What We’ll Be Exploring
For the first 12 weeks, we’ll be using The Five Illusionists, an essay by the late Venerable Dhammavuddho — a monk Bhante Vimalaramsi respected.
The essay brings together around 19 suttas, mostly from the Saṁyutta Nikāya, with a few from the Majjhima Nikāya. It’s a down-to-earth way to explore the five aggregates through the suttas themselves, supported by practice.
After the first 12 weeks, we’ll keep going with new themes and collections — always keeping it simple and rooted in the suttas and meditation.
Everyone’s welcome — no matter your level of experience.
You’re free to come when it works for you, and there’s no need to commit to every session. Still, there’s something about showing up regularly — the practice tends to settle more deeply, and friendships in the Dhamma have a little more space to grow.
However it fits into your life, we’d love to have you with us.
Facilitated by Kirsten Jones
Kirsten will guide and hold space each week. She may offer methods that have helped in her own practice, especially with bringing the suttas into meditation, but the focus is on inviting everyone’s reflections. We’re here to support each other and discover the Dhamma together.
